Epoxy floor coatings can do wonders to an area of concrete that looks unsightly and is in need of upgrading. Many of the older homes today and we're talking even as old as ten years will have garage floors for example which fade over time and just look plain ugly.

Epoxy floor coatings can be used on garage floors as well as industrial, basement and office flooring. Basically areas where there is foot and vehicle traffic which can damage original flooring over time. Epoxy has two main components consisting of a color and odor free resin as well as a hardener which supplies both the color and odor. The end result when mixed together means you will create a surface expected to weather the sands of time.

Epoxy Floor Coating Advantages

There are several advantages to using epoxy on your surface. It's considered extremely reliable in it's durability and will take most types of traffic and maintain it's aesthetic appearance. You also have the advantage of being able to adjust it's mixture to suit and fit whatever surface you intend to apply it to.

If your garage or basement floor for example needs a light coating then mix for a light surface covering. The same applies to a heavier requirement. Epoxy also enables you to come up with a hardness level to suit as well as an elasticity to suit the type of climate you live in.

And what about color? No problems here either as it's ability to handle adjustment in it's preparation especially midstream, means if you want to reach a particular color you can generally do so without too many issues. The bottom line is that you can get durable and attractive in the same sentence and this is a huge advantage over a bland concrete floor.

Some may hear the term epoxy and think harmful chemicals but the fact is, there really are no harmful spin-offs from the chemicals used in it's solution. In fact, a well mixed epoxt floor coating will have strong resistance to gas spills, solvents and salt. If you live near saltwater then this is good news.

When you decide you want to go down the epoxy surface coatings route be careful when it comes time to purchase. While you can buy kits advertised as do-it-yourself for home floors such as garage and basement make sure the paint kits you are about to purchase can do what it says on the label.

Hot tires can be an issue for many surfaces. High performance kits are now available and if your floor gets plenty of traffic then consider these above anything else. Make sure you are clear about what you want and what the coating will have to deal with at buying time.
